[MOD] Offworld: Fall of mars

A quick collapse of the various colonial settlements left only the remaining martian military to clean up the mess. Large earth based mining
conglomerates quickly moved in to fill the security void with contracted armies intent on protecting mineral and metal extraction operations
with little regard for the remaining colonist.

Toshida corps, the largest of these companies, now controls nearly all of the mining operations on mars. Toshida corps lets the martian miltiary maintain
complete control in the prime colonies in exchange. A mutual understanding of non agression has become norm between the Military and the corporate armies.
All has been peaceful for nearly 10 years on mars.

Yet, another faction exists on mars. It seems some of the engineers who worked on the original terraforming operations have gone into hiding in the fringe
areas of colonized mars. This group is popularly known as "The Masons" after a earth based organization of the same name.

Sightings of these rogue engineers has become more frequent in the past several months. Some of Toshida corp's outlying mining stations have come under attack
by small raiding parties. these attacks have been limited but increasing in frequency. They seem to be mainly after supplies and retreat quickly without doing much
damage to the operations themselves.

Still, shareholders on earth are worried. Toshida corps has decided to make a limited offensive in an effort to discourage further attacks.

The martian Military has been strangely quiet regarding the incidents and has declined comment on official martian news nets..

this is where we find ourself.


Offworld Mod for battlefield 2.


Mod objectives: Create a fun fast paced mod within a very short development cycle as a means to gain experience for industry employment. Aiming for a 4-6 month development cycle with the following milestones

Milestones:

1. 2 ships in game on a test map (50% done)
2. 1 ship for each faction and 2 finished maps
3. 2ships for each faction, Menu graphics, 3 finished maps
4. 3ships for each faction, 6 maps (final stage)


Gameplay objectives: Single player craft based combat. fast short rounds. Intense combat
vehicles will be light/medium armed. Team work will be heavily focused on when balancingn the gameplay

This will be a very light project asset wise. No player models, no hand held weapons
Only 9 vehicles planned and statics will be minimal. basically terrain based combat with large scale statics used as fighting locations.

all combat will be in small singleman combact craft known as "flitters". They will be hybrid hover/flight vehicles using nearly conventional weapons. Flight dynamics have already been created. This template will be applied to each vehicle and tweaked according to the indivdual models characteristic.

Battles will take place on 2 sq km maps. ( we are considering scaling the ships and static down to give us 4km maps. wouldnt that be fun!)

considering moving the project to another engine at a later stage if its a good concept

Current team

Mod lead: Irontaxi
Advisor: Rhino (Project reality Lead mapper)
Modeller: Z-trooper

Looking for:

1 Modellers: projects could include the following
1. small compact single man crafts for each of the 3 factions (9 ships in total)
2. static models based on a unified concept model. (ie we deicide what the style of
construction will be and stick to it.)

1-2 texture artists: Primarily ship textures and static model textures. No character models or infantry models will be used in this mod

Website artist: Need to at least have a basic homepage and forum to make it a legitimate
portfolio project in my opinion.

Experience: Level design and static models for project reality for about 1.5 years. Architectural modelling for about 15years. Currently living in Japan. Will be moving back to Canada in July of this year. Have a porfolio page but down at the moment.

Update Mars Test flight video ..VTOL

Here is a short test flight.flight dynamic has come along really well and terrain is looking very nice in my opionion..

carft are really meant to hug the terrain. Flight is closer to a hovercraft/helicopter than a standard lift generating craft..keep your speed up by using the terrain.. you can see i failed at that a few times in this test flight..hehe..

currently using our trusty test vehicle which you can see at the video start..hehe.(no ships will look nothing like that)

Still looking for one more texture artist if anyone is keen to do a few sci-fi ships..

We are currently in search of texture artists and modelers. People with BF2 (or other engine) experience is prefered as far as I know.

You can post a little bit of info like i.e. how long you have been modeling for, what moddings experinces you have and possibly a few shots of some stuff you have done in the past

Irontaxi is living in Japan so he is asleep now, but if you have xfire you can add me there, my id is: ztrooper

Also it dosnt seem like Irontaxi has linked to our site/forum - so check it out. We have left our development forums open for the public to read.

I have been modeling for about a year, i did some at uni but i have done most of it after i finished about 7 months ago. to see where my modeling is at this point in time the most recent models was done for a speed modeling contest on train heres the link.

I am not allowed to just recruit people without consulting Irontaxi, but I'm sure he will take this up when he gets around to it, but I have good feelings about your chances
