I'm working on a project in my spare time and looking for artists to join in. It's a purely for fun, non-commercial project. The code is GPLed and the art is CC-BY-NC-ND (but I can accommodate whatever license you want).
The reason I'm doing it is because I always wanted to make a game about mechs but was always missing a willing programmer to make it with. Well, things have changed; now I'm missing an artist.
You can download a tech demo from its website:
Metal Crusade
The website links back to my website so you can see
who I am.
Since there's no money to be made here the only reason I see people would be interested is if they enjoyed modelling giant robots or liked the game idea. So if you always wanted to come up with some robot designs and then see them slug it out on an arena maybe give it a go.
I'm the only artist on the project so far so pretty much everything needs doing. Mechs need modelling, texturing, animating, props need modelling and texturing, planets need sculpting, UI needs graphics etc. so if you feel like contributing I'd welcome any skills you can bring to the party.
Especially if you like the pixel art aesthetic. I have an art style in mind for the game but it's not set in stone - pixel art in 3D with stumpy head proportions (a.k.a. super deformed, characters 3-4 heads high). The game subject might be serious but the art style needn't be.
The gihub repo has a documentation folder - haven't had time to put it up on the website yet, but you can just dl it from the
github's http listing, It's only a dozen pages long so far. Since everyone here plays games I'll use some thought shortcuts to describe it. Mechwarrior 2 mercs style mech building, Mech Commander style top-down camera, Jagged Alliance tactical fights (but in real time and you directly only control your own mech), Rainbow Six (the old ones) style planning before missions, Metal Slug art sillyness.
