Unearthly Challenge

Unearthly Challenge is finally(!) upon us.

I wasn't going to enter but it's quite an interesting and different approach to a comp so I might do. Anyone else thinking of entering ?

Unearthly Challnege Rules & Regs

For those that don't know, this is an Environment Artists version of The Dom War

Basic roundup of specs:

IMPORTANT: You have up to 250k triangles, this doesn't mean you have to use them all. A well Optimized scene “always” earns respect!

re: 4096x4096 total for diffuse, 4096x4096 total for normal maps, 4096x4096 total for specular, etc. etc.
  • Lighting and rendering can be created within any 3D software application or Game Engine.

I was really looking forward to it, but the guidelines just seem a little too vague for what I was expecting.

I've been wondering about trying, but I know it will be a lost battle for any prices, hehe.
Although I do think that it would be a good learning experience for me.

And yea I agree.

I couldnt find a decent concept for this low poly contest (#15 cornered) (hence me not entering that), and non has pop'd into my mind for this one either.. I guess it will be best just to watch on the side line while the big boys play. Pick up some tricks and keep practicing on my own.

Hmm, i must say i was quite surprised when i saw the guidelines. They're much more open than I expected, which is something i really like tbh. (don't get constraint to much, work in the style you like, stuff like that).

I'm lacking time and team though. However, next year i just might make me some free time for this...
