To be fair, even Andrew Harrington and tb3d's sites are possibly one click to many. I didn't read a word of text on their site, I just clicked gallery. That would indicate to me that the text is therefore irrelevant and the page needn't be there.
That one click I used up to get to the gallery is one less click I'd have spent clicking on one of their thumbnails. Although that's not too big a deal in the grand scheme of things.
This all seems really anal, but it's been tested several times across many sites with the same results. People in general have ADD when it comes to sites, if the site doesn't deliver instantly from the link they followed to get there, they get impatient. If it doesn't deliver fully inside of 1 click, a decent amount of people will give up and go elsewhere. Two clicks is sort of the threshold of almost all people giving up unless they're really seeking information and think they're on the right path.
