Haha, such a funny thread.. not even the most sophisticated piece of equipment on the planet is immune to trollbait!
As for technology killing the planet, yes of course that is true but our life expectancy is increasing by 1 year every 2 years, and that rate itself is increasing to the point that within 30-40 years it is predicted(and not by time travelers mind your) that the rate at which our life expectancy increase will exceed the time it takes for it to incrementally increase(ie: increase by 2 years every 1.5 years) essentially creating a sense of immortality due to the fact that by the time you are 50 the life expectancy will be 100, but the time your are 100 it will be 125, but 125 it will be 160 and so on . And technology has nothing to do with us killing our planet, just as guns have nothing to do with killing people. To blame technology is like standing out in the rain with a hole in your umbrella and blaming the umbrella for getting you wet.. The umbrella is not what's getting you wet, it's the rain. Technology isn't what's killing this planet its the dumb ass people in charge of how it is regulated and used and the 4 year political planning that goes along with it. Guns don't kill people, it's the policy makers that allow them to be sold in Wal-mart, but more importantly its the idiots who buy them that kill people.More importantly than our lifespan growing is our growing consciousness as a result of technology. And I am not just referring to how immensely quantum physics is going to shatter our perception of the universe {I am referring to the fact that for the first time in our 1.5 million year existence on this planet as conscious beings for the first time as a whole we are not only thinking about what once was but about what will be and more importantly what COULD BE in a very real sense. We go from flip communicators in star trek to cell phones in a matter of years, we are taking the stuff of dreams and fancy and turning it into reality proving that anything in our minds is possible... Heh unfortunately this includes our own destruction, although fortunately for some of us it also includes our own salvation. My 2 cents = CERN for teh WIN! |

You say guns arent the problem, and yet you said that people making them available is wrong. So guns themselves are a problem. It is exactly as you say, its our own problems as a race that makes guns an issue, but those problems arent going anywhere in a hurry. So in the meantime Im all up for making guns unavailable. And in theory that should go for new technology too. Id hate it if they ever did try to ban new advancement, but it would probably be prudent before we play with something that truly is beyond us. I have to credit the human race with not blowing itself up with nuclear weapons though. Yet. Genia |
