Well, I guess it's only the usual fear of science and new inventions.. as when the train was first invented.. people saying and calculating that one would die from traveling so fast

Cheers!

As much as I agree that worrying over this being dangerous is unwarranted, I think its only natural to be filled with a sense of awe and a feeling that were dealing with things beyond our understanding.
Which frankly is true. We havent really scratched the surface of understanding what really goes on with those sorts of energies.
Ah well ... I do look forward to hearing about what they find. It better be something pretty amazing for the money they've spent on this thing

Anyone up for trying to map/model one of those chambers?! Would make my head explode from the detail :S

it's one sexy thing though and the size is to be jealous about!
a few kilometers of track, what the hell.
Anyway, i fully support this kind of science. It's just.. awesome

Imagine having little particle accelerators in cars in the future.

This is the exact thing John Titor predicted and exactly where it would be built. He is the time traveler who came here from 2030 using technology harnessed from miniature black holes he said were first discovered in this exact collider in Switzerland....it's pretty amazing to see this come to be and know that we're on our way to time travel finally.

Wikipedia "John Titor"....he was a time traveler who came back for a specific computer they needed in a future that still dealt with software/hardware failures on computer systems. He used a time machine with black holes contained in it that were discovered at this Hadron Collider in Cern, Switzerland....he came back and told everyone that's how we finally got to time traveling...was when this large collider finally came online. Take him for what he's worth I guess, but it's an interesting prediction none the less.

No he isn't. neither you are.

I am excited about the collider. But they just cooled down the LHC to -271°C by now. Colliding particles will start on 10th september. On the engineering side the LHC is pretty stunning :O
