Well here's the funny part.
I was crazy lucky to get this job, as i was working for a film VFX company in Germany that closed down abruptly..so needing work i went to the FMX show in Stuttgart (which luck would have it started the week after the company closed!) and saw the Crytek booth and was almost not going to go in as i had/have no prior exp in games, and thought they'd never be interested, but i showed them my stuff anyway (thought might as well) and they seemed to like it and a week later i had an interview, then another week and a half and i had the job O_o I sort of stumbled into it. I didnt really have a proper folio..the stuff i had was geared towards film..i did have the 2d/3d stuff printed out on glossy paper lol..maybe there's a lesson in that. Now i should point out that my contract is as a 1 year payed intern..so i guess i sacrifice pay for lack of knowledge..or something like that. And no doubt work very hard, but i am excited as its basically the best opportunity to learn i could think of and the pay really isn't that bad. My work was a bunch of assets for the film in ZB. a Statue, A ruined wall and some personal tests..and in fact that was it,except for some 2D stuff. In the days before my interview i made a few extra things. The pillar, and the rock face/gate thing.and a quick texture experiment..though nothing mind blowing by any means.. Here it is for what its worth. ![]() ![]() a quick wip doodle i did, and have since stopped in favor of starting again and pushing the design a lot more..but was a good exercise in a few things. ![]() another doodle ![]() The wall and statue for the film..which is now dead lol ![]() This is what i showed them of the statue..a sort of simple process break down ![]() 2D stuff ![]() ![]() Original plate ![]() Cleaned and extended 50% ![]() Matte painting ![]() So, not exactly your typical games folio i guess. In fact i feel incredibly lucky as i had only just started using ZB in the film project (i was primarily a compositer), and have only been using it for the 3 months since. So in essence I got paid to learn ZB..to then get a job at Crytek to learn game workflows lol.. I dunno..maybe i have charisma..or maybe they'll just let anyone in these days..but probably i was just lucky. Hope you guys arn't all like "wtf!? thats it?" heheh Last edited by Layer01; 16-06-2008 at 08:31 PM. |

Well, I gotta say, you've sure worked hard enough to eligible for such a position, just make sure you capitalize on it (you've only got one shot at a first impression
). Congrats & Good Luck!PS: Did you interview with Ben at all? Last edited by requiem2d; 16-06-2008 at 04:25 PM. |
