A tutorial is a lot for my timeframe, but I maybe can give some personal tips. Maybe not everyone will share my ideas, but I think some of them are musts.
Domain and hosting: Go cheap and suck. I often buyed some cheap hosting with domain. They offer the world, but in fact they just overload one server, have crappy ftp, a ripp-off control panel, etc. Don't get overwhelmed by hostingsize. 100Mb should be more than enough to start. I prefer paying a bit more, and have a nice connectionspeed. I often buy domain in the US because I'm EU. Euros own Dollars atm, so they're cheap ![]() Portfolio: static, no flash (or just a little bit, no poping sounds and flying bars). Personally, I use my portfolio for several items; 2D, 3D, programming etc. I have chosen for a first page that shows the recent work, and then several pages by item. Development: I use dreamweaver and photoshop. Designed in photoshop (save for web) and do the html/php stuff in dreamweaver. But there are several programs to do all of that, I just like those two ![]() Hope this helps a bit, good luck! |

Getting a domain is a pretty simple process, they are usually about $10, you just need a credit card, the hosting shouldn't cost you more then $4-5/month for what you'll need.
Honestly just keep the portfolio siimple, let your actual work speak for itself. Remember your not applying with the game company to be a web developer, or web designer so it's not the website you need to be fancy, its your work. Keep it simple, clean and unoffensive, if you do then the simplicity of the site itself will likely go unnoticed if done right. |

Well, it's not the best as it comes to handling traffic, but aslong as -a lot- of people doesn't watch it at the same time, Diinoweb should be alright to host your page.
And then you could simply create a short-cut adress for it and change your favico. There's sites for that for free. Might not be the best, but it works.. it's the same thing I do with mine.. it's free, and it got some pretty fast servers. For the webdesigning etc, you could prolly find some good inspiration or something to rip-off from a tutorial right here: Adobe Photoshop Web Templates, Interfaces & Layouts Tutorials - Tutorialized And the coding ain't really that hard once you get the hang of it.. there's countless of tutorials on the page linked above in the coding section aswell as all over the web. Cheers

I created my website by heavily modifying a royalty free template! Its definitely a good option as i don't have any web coding experience at all but created a website i am proud of.
