Well, for starters you could check out their homepage
![]() Autodesk - Autodesk 3ds Max Though, I gotta say.. it's not really that cheap. If one can't afford it, you could still find other free softwares, or get it in other illegal ways.. though I wouldn't reccomend it ![]() Cheers

If it's a professional tool - buy or have company buy for you, or use it at school. If it's educational use a 30 day trial, use a discounted student version. Or ask via email, IM, or in person another 3d user how they got their programs, just not on a forum (THAT IS THE BEST OPTION).

I would question the value of going to a school to learn game art in any geographic region where there are little to no game studios, unless that school has an especially good reputation (like SCAD or Ringling). Where are the qualified teachers going to come from? There are a lot of teachers out there who are teaching because they weren't good enough to get a job and make more money; I wouldn't recommend letting them train you. Places like Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and London would be your best bet. The most I ever learned about game specific art was from the working professionals who moonlit as teachers.
As for moving... you make new friends and get student loans. You don't want to be rooted to one place in this industry or your options will be forever limited to whatever (if anything) is around. I know very few people who've regretted moving somewhere unless they're a total introvert or the place they move to sucks. I've lived in four states and two countries and it's almost always a great experience. I still fly home to see my old friends now and then but my life would be a lot less interesting if I'd never left. |
