Hand Drawing Shading Techinques
I got an assignment for an art class which is to be in due tomorrow. I'm to think of two designs for either a lamp, mirror or something like that and then draw two presentations for different target groups.
I'll be able to handle the design myself.. I'll just think of something, but what I'd like some piece of advice on is shading techniques for hand drawings. I searched a bit on google but couldn't really find anything good. So I were hoping that I could get some advice here before starting on it, or I'll just have to try it and see how it goes ![]() So if anyone got a link or could share some of their shading techniques for hand drawing with me I'd greatly appreciate it. Thought I'd mention aswell, I'll be doing this drawing with a black lead pencil. Thanks in advance, Cheers!

... umm you move your hand back and forth and bam shaded?
If your trying to find a technique on shading tutorial, you've missed the point buddy. You pick a style, hatch, cross hatch, blend, squiggle, etc. and you follow your reference. You don't ever not have a reference. But Corsair I need a giant space alien monster, there's no reference for that. WRONG! Try a whale, or some other large creature as a base, or a small one it doesn't matter. There's no secret, neurotic methods to making properly proportioned people, but those are simplifications by certain people and unless you have a matching thought process it won't help for ****. Sorry, I've been watching a massive amount of Zero Punctuation, and everything I think of saying is in the voice of a cynical British guy talking really fast. When I 'shade', add value, whatever you wanna try to call it, I actually can do this hand spasm which is hilarious, useful, and was interesting with the ladies in art class. Okay, last time I watch more than one Zero Punctuation a day. Promise.

I know about the bit where it comes to seeking references and using animals
I were mainly just wondering in case there were some good techinques to make sure ones shading will look good, or things to keep in mind while shading. It's as you say.. basically just move your hand back and forth... but wanted to make sure if there were any help to find in case I'd be missing out on something ![]() I also found a pic showing different styles of shading as you mentioned. Think I'll be going for hatch, liked that one quite a lot. And about Zero Punctuation, I know what you mean... watched some of it myself today actually ![]() Thanks for the input tho ![]() Cheers
