Your favorite Editor/SDK/Engine to mod? UE3, CryEngine 2, Source?

So which one is your favorite?

Unreal Engine 3 (UT3, Gears of War, Roboblitz <---the only UE3 games that come with UnrealEd)

CryEngine 2 (Crysis)

Source (Hl2, etc.)

Id software (D3, Quake 4, QW: ET, etc.)

My favorite is Unreal Engine 3.

I like the Source engine best for the general look and feel of the games made in it and the inherent visual style of the games made in it. It's far from artist-friendly, though.

UE3's material editor is fantastical... but the games so far have felt pretty clunky (with the exception of Mass Effect). UE3's inherent visual style is wearing pretty damn thin, too.

I'm pretty much on the same line like Talon here.

Worked with hammer and UnrealEd. They are both nice tools, but imho UE is better. It has allot more features i think, and hammer/Source engine doesn't even come close to some of them (the new material editor in UE is the best example of course)

The games we've seen so far do have that same "Unreal Engine look", however, i'm pretty confident that that is something that will change. If you look at the new tech demo (the one mentioned in the GOW2 thread), they are showing rooms don't look like "unreal" at all, while in previous techdemo's they realy wanted to show of all the "bling bling"

CryEngine2 is, I guess, the most Art-friendly engine currently available.
Getting your assets into the engine is really just clicking a button, this is why it get's my vote.

I do love the style of some of the UE3 games though.

I love the UI of Unreal 3 it’s a great engine but the dark grey art style of the games is starting to get boring.

I am going to pick up a copy of Half Life 2 on the PC soon so that I can start to use source as well. But I know Unreal can do some great art styles look at Mass Effect or even Bio-shock. I get the feeling that a lot of people think a game made in Unreal has to look like UT3 or Gears. This is just not true.

I stay true to id, i started working with that editor and i still like the d3radiant most, becuase its just drag and drop, and then press f3 and you see how it looks ingame, if your finished press f2 type map mapname and your ingame, id's awesome.

I know the new editors have the same features, but i just like the d3 editor and i mean, it was first

Valve was giving away HL2 and some other games if you had an Nvidia card in your PC.

Even thou it is a love hate relationship I have with this editor, I still must say the BF2 Editor has to be my favorite editor out there even with all of its faults... Over the past few years I've just grown to love it cos even thou it really dose suck in some parts, and cant do 1/2 the things that most editors like the Unreal3 editor can, it still has the basics right like the camera control is the best to really any other editor I've used, being able to fly around properly really helps in the overall production in your map or object being able to easily get to where you want fast is a real help.

so ye call me mad but I probably am

Hammer editor. It's just really easy to make stuff with, although I prefer the lighting system of Unreal (UE1 and 2 had great looking lighting, not sure if UE3 is the same though). But importing models is really, really annoying.

Edit: Cleared that up a bit
