What determines 'hand-painted'?
Hey, I've heard several people say that they have 'hand-painted' their textures.
What exactly does this mean? Does it just mean that it contains no photo content, or does it mean that they just used the 'paintbrush' tool in Photoshop or whatever? |

Whenever I've referred to hand painted I mean without any photosources/overlays/etc.
This texture ![]() For example, was entirely hand painted in photoshop, without any metal sources or anything, with the exception of using a source image of the Beretta logo in black and white which I used for the handle embossing. |

Depends on the style you're going for, I guess. But yeah, it is pretty time consuming.
I do find hand-painting stuff a lot more fun than just grabbing some photos, though. Or using photos sparingly to spruce up hand-painted textures. So, yep, like Ghostscape said, hand-painted pretty much qualifies as it being painted without using photographs. |
