Daily Contest?

Ok I did an hour-long texturing deal, now I'm sitting on my hands for a week. Could we have a daily contest type thing? I know it would be a lot of work setting it all up but I got a lot of time and I need to be investing it in making more artwork. I'm sure a few other people here are in the same shoes as me, and competition just brings out the best in a lot of people.

I dig the hell out of the fact that there are 3 contests, but I guess this is a case of I can't get enough of a good thing. Is anyone else feeling that way? Daily 3d model + texture contests?

The only constraints would be that the concept and restrictions are posted at Midnight, and you have 24 hours to finish and post. The next day is judging and working on the next one. It's not like judging takes that long anyway.

At this moment, the answer will be no unfortunately . Something like this would ask a daily checkup, and none of the staff members has time for that. Don't forget they already spend a large amount of time every day, replying to posts. Also, with the stc and smc, we see that alot of poeple make their submission during the weekend. So I fear that the succes of a daily model competition would be minimal.

We are making arangements for a new Low Poly competition, so if you can hang in there for a bit longer we can give you a large project to work on...

I wouldn't mind if it was something with very very minimal operational time-requirements. Clearly slim and trim would be mandatory.

What if we had an area where users or one admin could suggest a topic really simply and say nix on the whole voting protocol?

The Daily Sketch Group on conceptart.org is kind of a good example of how this can work, but I ain't into sketching the same way I'm into game art.

There's gotta be some people that can make it happen in a super slim-line capacity right?

I'll wait on the low poly competition to see how that works though, hopefully it will up the general workload a bit. Technically we should all be working 8 hours a day regardless of whether we're employed or not.

I also really like the idea of a daily comp where you have a full 24 hours to complete before a midnight deadline. In fact it's the speed part of the other comps that keep me away from them.

I really don't think you'd have that many people who could devote their time to it on a regular basis (in fact I'm sure I'd miss a few of them myself), but as long as you knew you wouldn't always have entries it's not like it would kill anyone.

I really wouldn't mind forgoing the judging process either, given that there are no prizes involved anyway.

thanoz, if the mods here don't mind maybe you could start an unofficial comp along these lines and see how many people want to join up? I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to come up with some simple themes (fantasy pet, sci-fi rifle, couch, etc... I'd be glad to help). If you do, I'll try to join whenever I can.

I think the problem with a daily contest is time really. I'm on a 2 week vacay until next week but many people have full-time jobs and obligations. Plus the weekends are usually spent relaxing. However, I think small unofficial weekly contests wouldn't be bad. Yanno, some small stuff like a body suit/weapon attachment.

Then you could have some of the members judge based on mesh topology, unwrapping, textures and presentation at the end of the week.

Surely you can set your own specs and topic to model stuff daily?

Of course, but when other people are doing the same thing at the same time and you get to compare and critique each other's work it provides a little more motivation.

There's nothing stopping you getting a group together and doing it We used to have a relaxed "Versus" series of comps that were done by pitching one texture artist against another.

You could use this thread to drum up interest, as long as you operate within reason and without spam

Hmmm. Only using basic round brushes and PS filters?

Fancy doing it over the weekend? I'm quite busy today
