Prerendered Sprites and Graphics
wow, things have sure changed since the last time I was here, feels very strict...
well, discipline and professionalism are good I suppose...
anyway,
I noticed that there are not very many articles or information on making prerendered sprites. I have some projects I am doing that will use such graphics. I have a lot of money invested in software and content to do so, none of which can be used in 3D form, not is it suitable for games anyway, most of it is print and film type stuff....daz3D, Poser, Carrara and Bryce. The meshes are not for games, but renders of stuff is fine...so now I can have baldur's gate or diablo type graphics...fallout, etc..in my gameMaker or Flash game. cool stuff. Now eventually i want to learn to model, at least enough for design or level building, but I am learning a lot about character animation and 3D in general. I can also make those cool cutscenes commercials and intros people weep from watching...so maybe I dont have max, but I have some handy tools...
So, I am looking around, and i only see a few tuts around the web on the subject, and none on using low resolution images and getting renders to look decent. I did find a chapter in this book, um 3D game fx & design..coriolis publishing, outdated, but good stuff anyway..Unreal tournament era, big chapter on Reality Factory...it mentioned using the Unsharp Mask filter, and I am starting to get some decent results...
So, is anyone else making game art this way ? any tips or advice ? I don't get much chance to talk to others about game design, so I may be long-winded from time to time, thx.
