Tablet + Scanner Question

Hello;

I'm looking into a Wacom tablet and a scanner, but am not sure which or what to choose. What recommendations would you have?

My monitor supports 1680x1050 pixels (as in, the size of the monitor, can't remember the inch size however), so what size of a tablet would be comfortable for that resolution? What brand or model of scanner picks up the most, in your opinion?

Thanks in advance

For a wacom... I'd recommend the A6 Graphire4 (cheaper and smaller, but if the graphire2 is anything to go by, it'll work well) or an A5 Wide Intuos3 (more expensive, but more useful features like the side buttons and it's larger with a widescreen ratio). In my experience, Wacoms are very hardy and long-lasting, so it'll last you years if needs be (my old Graphire2 is still going strong) so it may be worth splashing out a little extra money and consider it an investment.

The A4 ones may be better for if you're from a traditional artist background and like more room to sweep around in. I've heard complaints that A5 and smaller are too limiting on freedom of movement and require movement from the wrist rather than the elbow (I can attest to that at A6, but A5 seems fine to me). A4 can get pretty heavy on the pockets, though :P

I don't really know about scanners :/

Seconded. I used to use an A4 Trust tablet, which was fantastic at the time. It lasted for a few years until it started teleporting my curser across the screen at random times. It then became unusable, pretty much.

About 3/4's of a year ago, I went and got myself an A4 Intuos 3. Wacom really know how to make a solid product, tbh. It's solid, requires no batteries, and the software is fantastic.

I love using it, and would recommend that anyone serious about texturing/digital painting should get one. You don't need a top of the line, larger format tablet, but do make sure it's a Wacom

Thanks guys! I'm trying to find the Intuos3 you were recommending, but can't seem to.

Is there another good choice via local store pickup? (Best Buy, Circuit City, whichever)

Thanks a lot guys

Do a Google Product search for Intuos 3 and check through the items it brings up. You should be able to get it a load cheaper than through the normal routes. Check EBay too - you can sometimes get some really good finds on there, as long as you're in the right place at the right time.

It's not hard at all to find Wacom products on the net. You can even get them from the Wacom site :P

Ah, well, I'm not a UK resident :O As such, is this one the right one?:
Newegg.com - WACOM Intuos3 PTZ630 6" x 8" Active Area USB Tablet - Retail

Slightly different name (no A5 or so), so I got confused : / 6x8 is correct for my resolution, right?

Yeah, not issues with finding them, jsut the one you recommended. 6x8 is the size you were talking about, right?

Thanks again for all your help Just the two different names got me confused. Paying that much money, it'd be best to get it right the first time

If you work with 1680x1050 (which is either 20" or 22") you'll want a pretty big surface.
A6 is too small for the more precise work (i have an A6 on 22" as well and now that i've used an a4 i know what i've missed all this time).

Also, go intuos if you can, those pens are way more comfortable
