What would you try to improve about games art?
So i'm in my second year at uni and we got a module dedicated solely to planning for our dissertation for the third year. And i'm kind of stumped on what sort of problems would you guys like to see solved or improved on? Maybe it's a workflow? Or the way we import models/textures into a certain engine. There's a lot of things really! But one thing i realized is that for a games art student its hard to do a dissertation for games art on it's own with out involving programming or games design into it. So i want to reach out to the more experienced people on this forum who have helped me greatly in the past, so once again guys, What topic would you research for a dissertation?

If you're looking for a specific area that could be improved, I'm personally interested how 3D televisions in the home could influence the game market. I think 3D tech will eventually be the next step in gaming. Besides, of course, better graphics, smarter AI, and more responsive controls.
Just my two cents. Hope it helps ![]()

For art asset development, creating rigs still seems more complex and tedious than it needs to be.
Also better automated UV unwrap algorithms that can take different factors into account. |

It's not necessarily a technical problem, but I feel that a lot of game art has started to use the philosophy of 'add detail to make up for bad design." If the forms not there, add crap until it wows.

Thanks for the feedback guys.
@Polygoblin. I too would like to know how 3D TVs and Games could merge to form a new experience, this seems like a good area to investigate! @RedRogue. Definitely! Rigs are still hard to make it would save them a lot more time for animations to actually animate rather than just spend time rigging a character up and prepping it up for animating. @Megalmn2000 lol anything specific? I definitely think they could be more harder. Maybe hand them industry styled briefs. I know for a fact that these courses lack really bad as i am in one and kind of think to myself "Would i really get hired for my work as it stands now?" I tend to get an A once in a while in my work with a few Bs and Cs which are okay. But if i seriously presented my work to a professional they wouldn't go very easy on me! Thanks for bringing this up! @Skylebones do you have any games in mind? |
