Future of Asset Creation for Games
Hi everyone,
I'm currently studying Video Game Art at university. For research into one of my projects, I am looking into the future of asset creation. We all know about tools such as Max, Maya, ZBrush, Mudbox, Photoshop etc. and the use of texture maps, normals, spec etc. But I was interested in your thoughts about what the future may hold. Whether it be Unlimited Detail Tech or more texture based model - what are your thoughts on the which route games companies may take? All input welcomed! Thanks YJ |

I think that lower cost scanning/capture systems with higher quality results is probably something that will come about in the future, though I don't know if it will completely change everything. Having gaming systems that can capture objects presented by the user for use in game with little effort on the user's part would be related to that. I think Kinect can already do that to an extent?

If you are talking about 3D scanning high resolution, textured models using Kinect, there are some softwares that can do it - like Matherix 3Dify. Their beta works pretty well too. So, the "future" of low cost 3D scanning is almost true.
Is it easy for the game developers to develop games which can incorporate objects/3D-scanned avatars given by user into their game? |
