A new concept for artists to make money

Have you guys ever heard about 3D printing? 3D printing is a new technology that allows for 3D artists to submit their renderings to companies that will produce them into figurines. These figurines can be made out of lots of materials including stainless steel, titanium, or even precious metals. One of my team members took a free render of a tank and printed!

Another one of my character developers launched one of his very basic models to kraftwurx, and you can buy it in ABS plastic haha: Red Man

You are talking about a file format with 3d object information. File formats used for 3d printing are:

.stl – STL is a file format native to the stereolithography CAD software created by 3D Systems.

.iges – The Initial Graphics Exchange Specification (IGES) (pronounced eye-jess) defines a neutral data format that allows the digital exchange of information among Computer-aided design (CAD) systems.

.obj – OBJ (or .OBJ) is a geometry definition file format first developed by Wavefront Technologies for its Advanced Visualizer animation package. The file format is open and has been adopted by other 3D graphics application vendors. For the most part it is a universally accepted format.

.3ds – 3DS is one of the file formats used by the Autodesk 3ds Max 3D modeling, animation and rendering software.

A render is a 2d representation of a 3d scene. The render or frame can be single or multiple and is most often an uncompressed format such as .tiff or .tga
