Thanx for all your advice,
you see i can do a bit of both games artist and games 3d modeling...just not sure what will be better for me...specialy my age and job offers..(you said age doesnt really matter)..like i said i'm no pro...i normaly turn to my nogripracing forum when i need help in that 3ds max program or zmodeler...got as far as making car models from scratch down to UV unwrapping but not enough experience in getting the skins sorted out...though its the most easy step of them all i been told..i have the tutorial for it though..and the game to practice with..GTR2 To do with the schools i'm not sure what certificate i should be looking out for....i mean can i go to any games artist school....would they offer that same certificate.. Do i need to just create anything and not stick to cars boats and Gundams...? do i need to get very good.. example = create model, unwrapping and skinning, if so maybe i need practice something simple like a box or a plain house ... as i did jump in at the deep end years ago and created a full blown 3d model car without any practice with simple models ..? please have a look here at my powerboat model in zmodeler..need to finish the bottom and smooth it up.. |

There's two sides to the education debate - self-taught vs. schooling. Both have their pros and cons. On the one hand if you have the drive to teach yourself using tutorials and forums, then you can save a lot of money. On the other hand, schools offer you the chance to network with and be inspired by others.
You need to have a range of capability, but to begin with just model things you're interested in. Keep challenging yourself to try new techniques or different shapes. Definitely learn how to UV and texture. And yes, you need to be very good ![]() As a final note on the age thing: My first 3d boss was a trained typographer who, in his mid 40's, decided to get into 3d. He was completely self taught in 3d software and currently owns and operates a boutique 3d shop. Last edited by Benjammin; 01-10-2011 at 05:42 PM. |
