Its true that IRC is not for noobs, but its not for mainstream professionals either. Most of the people on IRC are do-it-yourself geeks in obscure nonconventional technology, which is why you see a lot of open source coders on IRC. Correct me if Im wrong, but there is little to no activity for commercial computer graphics on IRC.

*shrug*

I'm a fan of do-it-yourself geek mentality, heh.

There are a fair few art-based IRC communities though. I'm almost certain there are channels on most servers for 3d art and I think devART has an entire IRC server network for itself.
