Its true that IRC is not for noobs, but its not for mainstream professionals either. Most of the people on IRC are do-it-yourself geeks in obscure nonconventional technology, which is why you see a lot of open source coders on IRC. Correct me if Im wrong, but there is little to no activity for commercial computer graphics on IRC.

One thing that people seriously need to understand is that IRC is asynchronous in nature. Other people in the channel may be at work, out running errands, or just not available for whatever reason. It's not reasonable to assume that a channel is "dead" simply because you don't receive a flood of greetings and replies when you log in. People who use IRC on a daily basis typically leave it running for long periods of time (read: days and weeks). This is often called "idling." They catch up on the discussion that has transpired when they can. In order for this community's IRC channel to grow, people need to start idling. I would very much like to see this channel flourish, but it's not going to happen when people pop in and out for 5 minutes at a time.

the cool thing with IRC is its essential for a decent leet attribute but you dont need to be there in person, just put a bouncer on with your nick for the idling 24/7 appearance and you´re set
