Yeah, this channel seriously needs a boost. What about sticking a direct link to the IRC under the general chat forum? Most people dont use IRC a lot, so that would advertise the channel a bit more.
Anyway, im in now and its pretty dead, maybe 2 other people, who seem to both be away. |

I've been idling there for a few weeks now. It doesn't do any good to complain that there are only a few people in there. The rest of the planet doesn't exist to provide IRC entertainment for you
. You have to just leave your client connected and idle there as much as possible. That's how channels ultimately grow.Just because IRC allows real-time chat does not mean it's a purely synchronous medium. Many conversations on IRC will span several hours, especially while the activity level of the channel is low. Don't disconnect if no one responds to you within 5 minutes. It takes time to build up an IRC community, but I think it's worthwhile. My $0.02. |

I dont think this forum can afford to cop a "do your duty" attitude, I dont think it would take much for someone to embed a IRC client into a webpage and then provide a link to it on this thread. I think the problem with this forum is that its too noob/mod oriented and doesnt have enough credibility with pro game artists. If this forum doesnt start providing more resources to attract professionals, I think this forum will be in danger of just being another modding forum.

I think IRC has, is and always will be that way. For the most part the channel is idle until people start chatting for a bit then it drops to idle again.
IRC's also historically not been a chat medium for what I'll term "n00bs" which is something I've always liked about it - the users are generally intellectually mature and intelligent unlike regular web chatrooms. Encouraging regular chats like that only encourages to destroy the benefits of IRC :P |
