Global Game Jam 2013
At the end of this month, there is the annual Global Game Jam. It's an amazing and free worldwide event. The point? Create a team, and create a playable game within 48 hours based on this year's topic to be released at the start time.
Personally, this is my third year participating and I can be confident when I say that this is a truly incredible opportunity at development experience. Not only does it look great on a resume, but it is amazingly fun and provides a memorable time that will teach you more than you can possibly imagine in only 48 hours time. It is priceless, and yet it's free. Best part is, even if you crash-and-burn (been there), you still can learn a lot and have a wild time! Artists, programmers, sound technicians, producers, and anyone who is a fan of games or game development are welcome to participate (even if only in a support role, the hidden weapon of EVERY team). Gather your team, or search for other participants on forums and social media to create a development team. You can also join one of over 260 jam locations in roughly 50 countries across the world to be grouped with other participants! http://globalgamejam.org/sites/defau...dia/ggjmap.png Sometimes, the greatest games of the jam come from teams of complete strangers ;) I encourage you to find out more, to participate, and possibly even share your progress/experience here! Have fun! |

How is it going so far, everyone? Check out "Screenshot Saturday" on Twitter going on now. Many people from the GGJ are posting their progress today. It's always a nice boost seeing other people's wip.
I saw your pictures on twitter, nova. Having fun? I remember how nervous I was before my first ever game jam. |
Woot! Just got back from Global Game Jam 2013. Our team made a small game called TINMAN. Thanks for the info Polygoblin. Didn't wanna miss this one.

@ogulcank - Nice game! Insane the amount of work you all got done. Very cool feel and execution :)
@Nocturn - Glad to hear you had a good time. Can we have a link so we can check it out? Anyone else who took part, feel free to post your game, results, art, or whatever here. Hope you had a good time and learned a lot! |
Hey guys. Here is the link to the TINMAN game we were able to put together in the allowed time. Game: Tinman | Global Game Jam. Most if not all of the enemy and player models are very primitive but this is a very early alpha build. But we were able to implement some really cool particle systems as well as some ambient music and sound effects with some extra last minute help.
