High Poly Modelling 03: Rules & WIP

Guide Lines
• Get a photo of an environment, using the photo selected, select a prop/item to high poly model ONLY. Where possible I would prefer there to be more of a surrounding/environment (but i do accept it maybe hard to find the image).
• The size of the prop will vary from each competition that is done (small, medium and large (there is an image below that might help explain the sizing guide))
• You will be aloud to keep using the same photograph for each competition (and it will be encouraged), allowing you to build up an environment scene.

This is a LARGE sized challenge.

Rules:

General Guidelines:
• You must be a registered member of Game-Artist.net in order to participate in the official tournament.
• You can use any 3D and/or sculpting software package to create your entry.
• Only 1 entry per person, Do not try to create multiple entries with different user names. If you do more than one then you must pick the one you want to submit for the competition.
• Everything must be made by 1 single person.
• HOWEVER you can use the same photograph and work as a team but each entry must still be modelled by only one person.
• The maximum size for every submission image is 1600 x 1600 (max 400k file size), please note the attachment system is broken you will need to use an image hosting site.
• This is a large size challenge, to help make it fair/equal please do your best to stick to large sized object/props.
• The photograph you select must be a photograph of an environment
• The prop/item you intend to model must be on the photograph you selected (however you are allowed to use other reference material to help you model the prop/item).
• You must show us the photo you intend to use.
• I will allow close up shots of items/props that you intend to model as your required image, providing you can see the whole object.
• If you choose a close up shot as your required image and in your search for images you come across any environments images that would fit into what you where thinking the scene would be (but doesn't have the object you intend to model in it) then please post that up.
• Please post all your work in progress (WIP) below as new posts.

Limitations:
• You have no restriction on the amounts of polygons you can use.
• For final submission NO Texturing or polypainting.
• The final image maybe either a screen shot or a render (you can use any shaders (except transparent shaders) and any render setting that you like).
• You do not have to show wire frames, but you may if you want.

Duration/ Deadline:

*EDIT*
Deadline: Tuesday 10th January 2012, 23:59 GMT (Now 4 weeks)
*EDIT*

Sizing Guide:

Please post all your work in progress (WIP) below as new posts.

Here is a very quick example of WIP

Any questions just ask them in this thread as well.

Wooohooo another HP Challenge! Unfortuantely, I won't be able to participate in this one, but I can't wait to see what you all decide to model.

Seems to me like a lot of people won't be able to do this one, it being christmas/holidays and all that. I imagine most people will be with their families rather than sat working away on their computers.

I'd like to do it but I'll be 200 miles away from my PC.

NOTE: I've extended the deadline by 1 week, because people are going to be visiting family or celebrating the holidays and will there for lose time to work on the competition.

Perfecto: Yes I can see some people not getting the time to work on the competition becasue they are doing holiday/family stuff, as a result I've extended the deadline by a week to so people feel more comfortable in being able to finish the competition and also visit family and celerbrate the holidays.

Mmh, I'm looking for some mediterrannean architecture, in order to include it in an Oblivion mod. Maybe that door would do the trick :

Edit : oh, I have another choice wich would match better the mod atmosphere (and I prefer those crenels ):

Anyway, is there any other competitor here ?

I'm here! Think the initial base is done, need to add the frames sticking out at the bottom and make sure its not getting too noisy. All the ref's I've got every pillar is slightly different so I'm just picking and choosing at the moment

I love how the details are turning out on that, RedAppleIvy.

Going to try to work this one in. Aside from family/holiday stuff, work has been REALLY busy with people wanting custom artwork by Christmas, so lots of long hours the last two weeks. Hopefully I can start on this next week.

Leyto: The second image does look to have a bit more character too it.

RedAppleIvy: Of all the pillar i've seen they are definetly one of the more complicated ones, and they are coming along nicely. Decorative work is well done and the chiping/worn effect is working really nice.

I will be joining as well, just got too get a bit of free time. But the same image for me as the last comps and i'm planning to modelling the emergency stiar cases.
