Sweet...since I have to create some equipment for my character anyways, why not start now

Here's the Highpoly...it's not really a big shield and pretty useless against arrows or heavy weapons, but it is also very light...mainly leather, a little bit metal...

I'm making a Spartan Shield. I know it's not very original but it has been fun to make so far.

Hey TheCorey, you're using ZBrush right? You can probably use Trim Dynamic and planar brushes to try cut in those lines a bit so they're sharpened. Looking cool so far though

This challenge is so appealing, I can't resist to it At least I'll give a try with severall concepts first, using various "flavours"...

Edit : Here are some premodeling concepts

So we have one "waste made" shield, because I can't stand waiting Brink game approaching release
(material : road signs, pieces of barrel, metal wire...)

Others represents more "personal" approach, the middle shield (n°2) is my favourite...
(wood, forged metal)

Love your concepts Leyto, i especially love the "waste shield", great idea!

Heres something i've started on. Scottish Targe.

Still have to create a strap for holding the shield and possibly a longer one for carrying on your back or slinging over your shoulder.

Crits are welcome!

@Alan_Japp : I don't think you'll need to texture it, just need to model it.

Nice entries here, even we feel a bit lonely at this time

@Alan_Japp : you could add some "narrative elements" to your shield, like battle scars, scratched surface.. etc

Here is the state I'm in

More details expected as : electric wires, stained weldings, tape...

@Piflik - Love the unique design! I'm eager to see how you push the details. I picture this warrior using a set of nunchucks to rapidly maim enemies from all angles.

@TheCorey - SPARTANS! "OOH!" I'm digging the shield choice. It's looking very personalized already with the battle damage you have going.

@Alan_Japp - Yeah, diffuse textures arn't required for this modeling challenge, but I love your design anyways For some reason, it looks like a shield that an archer would carry.

@Leyto - I'm glad you chose the waste shield you chose to run with. I like your other concepts as well, but this design has a lot of flavor, and lots of opportunity for extensive detailing. I'm anxious to see more progress

The best offense is a good defense Keep it up, everyone!
