i think the problem was that max uses inverted green chanels for normal maps by default, or something like that.

I have to say that was not the problem. When I baked out of max I checked the box to make the channel go 'up' instead of down (I believe I got this from kaskad's tut on cgtutsplus). This is the equivalent of Xol's flip green box in his shader. I think I am gonna walk away from max's bake and go towards using xnormal exclusively.

Some of the map was lighting correctly some of it wasn't. I don't have time at the moment to investigate but may have to in the future.

Running out of time took waaaay to long to get this normal map and ao out. Lots of cleaning up to do.

1996 triangles.

For UnrealEngine3 and Max, exporting Normal map requires "Y" to be negative (inverted) from Xnormal or any other map generator. Same map that looks right in max wouldn't look correct in .. say CryEngine 2 or OGRE. Thats what I know.

Hmm interesting taemoor. Will definatley be usefull for the future. Once I start to gather my portfolio together I would like to use Cryengine2 to render out, will be helpful.

Normal map update for the night. Trying to keep it subtle.

Unfortunatley the Bachelor party yesterday took so much out of me that I won't be finishing this in time. I will finish this in the next day or two to toss in my portfolio.

aw, that sucks. you've been one of the more active posters on this challenge and a lot of your comments helped me out by proxy. was looking forward to seeing how your model turned out. hope it was a good batchelor party though!

Small update on the diffuse and spec. I still have a bit of work to do on it. Mostly have the larger grunge in, now I need to get in there with some small brushes and get the detail going. Gonna add a tiny bit more color.
Text is kinda just slapped on there.
