GAMC #2 - [hP]

Hey all!

I decided to give this one a go.

I realllllly suck at sculpting, and I'm really inexperienced at it, so, since this asset is alot more anamorphic and organic it's less likely anything could go wrong, so I decided to make a decent base mesh and spent a couple of hours on mudbox.

It's far from a good result, but what the hell, should be enough to get a nice normal map. I can always add extra detail to the normal map later using photoshop.

As you can see I deviated a bit from the original concept, I decided to make something a little bit more comfy and fluffy. I hope this is ok?

I used a handful of pictures as reference for the modelling, as the concept given is pretty much just a sketch.
This is one of the main ones I used as reference:

it certainly does look helluva lot comfier than the concept.

Nice sulpting on the chair, but I think you should sharpen up those creases a bit more.

Looks like the pillow is pushing through the sides.
I think you should lower that area otherwise a person sitting in it will never use the sides to lean his/her arms on.
And the part for the back looks like its too wide as well. maybe raise that up a bit.

Thank you guys!

Ibrahim, I tried to sharpen up the small folds, but they started to look weird and fake. Probably due to my noob skills at sculpting, so I decided to just stick with the soft and uniform sculpt.

About the pillow, yes, I'm aware it's looks a bit too high, but that's what I kinda dig about it, looks different. I dig the classic yet comfortable design, so I'm going to keep it this way. Nevertheless, thank you guys for your feedback!

Btw, low poly (1984 tris)

Looks nice. But it looks so diferent from the concept!

Isn't the purpose of the comp to make a model from the given concept?

What you did, is disregard this, and choose another concept.
Doesn't seem fair to the other participants.

I might man yeah, depending on my free time!

bitmap, I'm aware of that, but let me quote one of the lines from the rules:

"At the beginning of each competition you will be given a theme/concept to follow. However, in the interests of stimulating creativity, you are allowed to make minor changes to the concept. The theme, however, should not be changed."

It's up to the admins if they see fit to disqualify me. I just want to make another piece for my folio, and since I didn't liked the concept given on this compo, i modified it a bit. But do I really modified it that much? I just basically changed the proportions of it, I didn't made any major changes, imo.
But thanks for your concern.

Cheers, and thanks all. o/
