GAMC #2 - Chaosquack

Long time lurker, first time poster.

The last challenge raised my eyebrow as the description intrigued me as these are billed as portfolio building challenges. Since I am in the process of building a portfolio I figured I would enter!

A little late but should be putting in some hours on this.

Blocking stuff out. That back pattern was a bitch to get right. I'll be doing a little more 'plush' version of the concept.

Funny how you pretty much started on your model exaclty the same way as I did.

It's looking good so far, but at the moment it looks to stiff in my oppinion, not organic like your would expect from a leather chair. (alot of completely straight sides) This will obviously change with the side padding of the chair and a softer specular.

Keep it going, you're a late starter like me, but we still have a week left

Thanks snake!

I'm moving on to the low poly for better or for worse. Need to get this thing done.

very nice and clean high poly. I like your variation on the concept a lot.

Thanks for the comment poostayn. It is tough thing for me to vary from concepts for some reason. I am trying to get a way from being 1:1 while modelling. Forcing myself to have things just a little bit out of wack and different and not so perfect.

Here are some wires.

I'm not entirely convinced I need to indent the low poly where the buttons are in the chair. But I did anyways.

1762 tris right now. I think I'll go in and add a few loops to smooth the silhouette.

Whatcha think?

Errors!

This is my first attempt at baking normals from a hi poly to a low. You can see I have quite a few errors to sort out tonight but plan on staying up reaaaaaal late.

I am extremely happy how the chairs back cushion came out. No spec or anything. Back to work to fix the errors!

Looks like your projection cage is too small.
You can always try baking the elements separately if you're having trouble baking it in one go.
