Well, It's not only "model". You have to model base mesh, sculpt, get an low poly, UVW's, baking, texture painting, diffuse, specular, normal maps, and finally material tweakings. (At least that's my workflow)
Of course you could always make a very simple Low Poly and texture it, but I figure this competitions are to make "portfolio" ready assets. So, therefore, it should have reasonable detail. Also, some of us got daytime jobs, so can only work on it on weekends or so. So yeah, 2 / 3 weeks sounds very good to me. (Besides, I guess the main reason why GA switched to this GAMC competition, is to drop the "speed" kinda competitions, and have something slow-paced, but with good quality, and i pretty much agree with it.)

GL man, cos I tell you, apart from a couple of things in this life, (:P :P :P) there is nothing more satisfying than finishing something you've worked for a long time! trust me!I should be creating my WIP thread today or tomorow as well, we'll see! I wanna at least post the highp model.
