Agreed with the blood - It's a big old cliché now. I'd much rather see the shine worn off the varnish, or grease marks than blood.
The highlights on the pump grip look a little odd to me, too. Feels like they're bringing the whole peice down.

thanks for the comments, yeah with the blood i was hoping it would add some character to the gun abit... give it a history so to say. the worn out stuff would be the scratches and other characteristics.
i changed the highlights on the pump, and mucked around with the normal map, here is a pic with a shader being used in max 2009 What you think? thanks again for the replys ![]() |

If the gun is old (it's an old model used in ww1) and the blood splatter has been caused by the user of the shotgun having killed someone (or something) by hitting them with the shotgun butt, you'll have to change the following:
- The blood stain of the gun neck needs to be larger, a bit rubbed back and forth, and have a larger surface (the hand would need to firmly clutch almost all around the neck). Possibly add a hand-shaped outline of darker blood, created from the blood that's splattered on the hand that dripped down to the wooden surface. - The wood looks too blurry -- Sharpen it and tweak the normal maps because the wood's shape looks too unrefined to have been shaped into that design, let alone used for such a long time. - You'll need to add blood where a person would grab the gun to transport it (not in a shooting position), and possibly in some other places because blood is liable to produce a large amount of random stains. - Scratches from pump action, because right now the pump grip's lead looks like the pump has been attached just now, and slided in without touching the sides Overall the piece looks like it could use an AO pass and also add a tad bit more saturation, blackness and dirt. Long post again huh? ![]() |

geese! im getting snapped by critique! lol,
but thanks you all for your ideas/comments, very valid points. i dont think i will have enough time to redo the blood or anything but yes i know what you mean fabiodan. I didnt take all of that stuff into account when making it, i just wanted it to look like it just was in a zombie war or something. i'll try to get some of your comments across to the model. thanks guys, shame i didnt get this level of critique in the WIP thread! lol Thanks again |

ummm, not sure why you think its done in crazy bump.... its just 0 saturation and changing the levels of the diffuse to bring out the white in my texture. which is the scratches, then i re overlayed them to make them more clear in photoshop.
