Custom AK-47

AK-47 w/ Custom Tiger Paint

I wanted to make the ordinary AK fun and new to look at, so I pumped it up with a custom tiger-stripe paint job.

Modeled the hi and lo resolution meshes in Maya, baked with xNormal, textured with Photoshop, and rendered with Marmoset.

Thank you for viewing my work!

Your time would have been better spent improving the original textures...Also..Lose the grip tape.

I wouldn't say remove the grip tape, it just needs to blend better with the wood. Right now its a bit to contrasty

A google search showed me most AK's wood looks more along these lines; http://www.stillhq.com/guns/pictures/AK-47_scaled.png

For the metal I'd say throw some more detail down on the diffuse and specular regarding ware and etc. Looking up ware on real weapons and such would help for ideas and references

Looking pretty good! I agree with BuLL about getting rid of the grip tape, it's overdone in videogame weapons. Also the tiger stripe paint could use some larger worn effects, especially on the front grip where the handling would damage the paint job.

I like it. Very clean model, and good solid texture. The tiger stripe pattern is very nice and the tiger spraypaint icon is a nice touch.

how did you get the wood grain into your normal map? Did you just put a wood grain normal into your detail slot in marmoset?
