I did the bake in max with a custom cage and a single non-exploded bake with a additional passes on objects that had errors.
Edit: Just realized you were asking about the high poly. The seperate panels were slightly tricky to manage with the odd angles and concave shapes. To get around this I built a low poly blockout mesh with all the facets fully defined. Then for each panel I split faces off, extruded, and did the sub-d work.
