[Environment] Project Tulip

Project Tulip : 3D showcase realtime environment on Vimeo

Hey there all,

Some of you might've seen this already in the WiP thread.
We are 3 graduate students who just finished our graduation project.
For this project we wanted to create a great looking environment. We were heavily inspired by Fallout3 and Gears of War and since we don't see a lot of dutch scenery in games,
we wanted to create an environment that would be somewhere in the Netherlands.
Total productiontime was about 3 months and we created about 300+ assets for it.
This was a huge learning experience for us.

Our goal with this project was to re-create a recognizable environment in the Netherlands and complete redesign it by putting it in an alternate timeline and have it a bit of a vintage look.
In our version World War 2 never happenend and the Art Deco had a huge impact on the architecture. Also, something has happened and the area looks devastated and deserted, a ghost town.
What the hell happened..?

Let us know what you think of it!

This is amazing, I didn't even notice the window repetition thing till you mentioned it.

It's really amazing and you just gave me a lot of motivation.

WOAH! all i could think while watching that video was the idea of actually running myself there. very unbelievably believable environment. flawless ! everything seems to be fitting each other perfectly. sky atmosphere dirt wreckage and some real life humor. that world is really rich of these things. the only improvement to the scene could be the action.

may i ask what school are you graduating ?

Very impressive stuff guys, congratultions. I think this deserves a plug

Last time i looked at this project the buildings had horrible destruction, i must say i'm very pleased to see that you guys fixed that. That was pretty much the only thing that really bothered me. Everything does look a bit chaotic though, not sure how well that is for the actual gameplay, or if it's even important for the assignment. But when it comes to creating nice environments and consistent artwork you guys did a great job!

btw, people should watch the video if they can, it looks allot better in motion.

Hey everyone.

@Shatter and Mistry,
we realized the tiling of the windows aswell. unfortunately we ran out of time to fix that .

@Pankake,
Thanks a lot !

@ ArYes,
Thanks ! and yes we used UE3.

@pshychodaddy,
Thanks a lot! Were graduating at the Utrecht school of arts, games design and development.

@Doylle,
Thanks! our goal here was just to create a great looking environment, we didnt want to implement any type of gameplay. So its more of a showcase then a map of some sorts

Fallout 3 - europe

As doylle said, look at the vid it actually made me open up Fallout 3 again hehe. Very nice work. Only crits I could see is the train/tram car windows were lit up too much i think and there were way too many lights on for a nuked/bombed out city. But they are minor points compared to how much has gone into that.

Very impressive stuff! Amazing environment!
it definitely looks detailed, so detailed that I don't even know where to start looking at this pics, that's good and bad at the same time. Most of those pics are a bit chaotic, with maybe too much information and I don't really like the reddish illumination you picked.

Although, a lot of work has been placed into this for sure, nice job and congratulations!

(lol @ the bomb, nice easter egg! )
