Hall of Magma

Created in Unreal Engine 3 and based on a concept by Feng Zhu. It is not a full "level". When I was building it I was thinking of it more as a walkway before a boss fight like something you might see in Zelda.

Ok i have dubbed it "done" in my head, But I really want to hear your guys comments and crits so i can make sure its the best it can be before i start using footage of it in my demo reel.

Oh my this is nice.
I liked the feng-zu design and love how this turned out.
The things i'm missing are some more light occlusion, and more color differences. Also the magma doesnt look so hot (warm hot), it's also a bit grey-ish. And the textures could use a bit more edgework to pull the shape out a bit more.

But overall nicely done, wish we saw more of this stuff on here.
I especially like the fact that you've built a small unreal environment out of it, instead of it being 1 solid model.

I agree with chris - some nice specular on the edges of the metals would really make the industrial parts pop, but other than that this looks like a really great bit of work to me

front page work methinks!

Looks like it came together nicely. I think you could've added a little more details in the diffuse here and there (like at the end of the tunnell, where those 6 grill like cilinders connect with the other thing, there's no ao, no extra detail in the normal or diffuse map, etc...) It's small stuff though, but i think it could help alot...

There is one thing I would really change though. and that's the lack of good AO / shadows. If you could just add a shadowmap to the largest props, it would definitely give it more depth imo... (and kill your compile time too probably )

but other than that, looks very nice

hey thanks for the crits and comments everyone all were very valid points. I have made a list of about 10 or so things i'm going to work on. Ill post again once i fix them.

@doylle- i couldnt get the shadow map stuff to work, i went through one tutorial but it never seemed to do anything. I might have been doing it wrong.

hey i followed the tutorial. I did it right its just really hard to tell on my map because of all the lights I have. And some of my objects are not set up properly because i have uvs overlaying on top of each other.
