No need for normal? haha you're funny. You could go on 500 tris and use normal map, effect would be same

First of all the way he did it is his choice and does not need to be ridiculed by calling him funny because you disagree on his approach.
Second a normal map takes up more memory than a few more triangles. (in this case he did not model it very efficient but that's beside the point im trying to make)
