INS_Abdallah (Source Level)

Hello.

It's time to introduce ins_abdallah, the project I have been working on for over a year now. I was responsible for nearly everything in this level: Concept, layout, brushwork, environment art (save by the vehicles, foliage and other minor assets), optimizing and lighting.

I tried to step away from the obvious and overdone "shades of brown/yellow" look, and went for a more colorful one, despite the war theme.

The map was just released in the latest release of the mod.

Screenshots:

Credits:
Additional textures: Insurgency team (most notably: ooghi, spine and union)
Additional models: PhilipK & Insurgency team (most notably: steppenwolf, pericolos0, skybex)
Soundscapes, Ambient sounds: Stringed_Evil
Overhead map/loading screen: Spielmann

Special thanks:
My girlfriend (for being so patient over the year), Skjalg, Stringed_Evil, endless, brooker, spielmann, 2d-chris, Bluestrike, steppenwolf, the entire INS staff, helpful community members, anyone I may be forgetting!

INSURGENCY: Modern Infantry Combat (it's included in the latest release)

About Insurgency:
Insurgency (INS) is a total conversion mod for Valve Software's Half-Life 2, powered by the Source Engine. INS immerses the player in an intense online combat experience. Set on the modern battlefields, Insurgency simulates infantry combat that encourages the use of teamwork and tactics to close with and destroy the enemy.

Doesn't look there there's anything to crit, looks like it will fit perfectly in the Insurgency universe! Nice work and congrats on finishing this, a huge achievement!

*after closer looking*
- some more rooftop props might have been nice, to get rid of the flat roof tops (like a door exit on top, antenna's, satellite dishes, etc etc), at least you did some of them with advertisements which helps.
- the impact crate has sand bags next to it that are unmoved from the blast, seems a bit weird
- the red advertisement with the bald guy on it (last screen) seems to have no torn edges, all the rest in the game is worn and torn except that one, seems out of place against that wall

(this is just nit picking, really great job )

awesome work. Reminds a little of one of the levels from army of 2

I really like the little splashes of colour everywhere, you can tell they have been carefully thought out to break up the level

Insurgency is a fantastic looking mod. I wish I could play it. Map looks very nice, sand bag positions look a little boring (almost like tiling textures) dunno if you can break it up or anything. Bright yellow and soft blue lighting is a great combination, looks cool and comfortable in some areas. Good work!

Excellent work! I would have to agree with Alexander on the sandbags choice of placement. Not sure if you can fix it, but if some were knocked over or pulled out a little to loose the pattern look. I think that would look a lot better.

looks excelent. finishing an entire level of any type is an achevement. one of such clear design and execution, even better. from the images, (while trying reall really hard to find fault merely for the sake of it) i would say a little more dirt on the path would be nice maybe? lol. couldn't let you off with only praise!! well done.

Thanks for the suggestions and praise everyone, a new version of the map is coming soon adressing most of those critics. I also replaced the sidewalk/street/sand texture, too look a bit more Iraq'ish. I'm positve it looks much better now.

Keep C&C coming, they are very appreciated.

Looking forward to further updates Minotaur.

More C&Cs:

•Not sure if this would be really hard or not, but it seems like the damaged areas are too localized, I think some more cracked concrete, and broken areas would help it alot.

•Both damaged cars are the same color, I know you might not be in charge of scenery items, but a different car or different color would make that look a little more real.

•Dug in area with the sand bags in front of it (2nd pic) looks very bare. Maybe some barrels, weapons or other whatnot lying around would look better. It wouldn't be dug and just abandoned.
