Feel free to show your WIP! We love seeing projects develop from early-on

Lovely designs everyone! Some look very "Goron" to me, and that's what I pictured when thinking of the Oolarks. Keep rocking!

Here's my sketch of the Shyala. Left side a more animal like version, right side a human-ish version (it's a girl!) . I can't decide!

Talking First Sculpt

From my website:

"Here is a sculpt I’m doing for a competition. The competition is to create one of two creatures based on concepts by the Double Happy Vs The Infinite Sadness - welcome website. I’ve really been excited about this competition and am trying to make my creature perfect. I must admit that I didn’t even want to post my WIP, but after seeing such great entries on the www.game-artist.net forums I decided to put this up.

I’ve only done the face so far and will start to work on the body tonight. I do plan to add horns and maybe some other features to the face, but I’m already behind my own schedule! This is my first fully sculpted creature and I have high hopes that it turns out great. Please post any critiques, comments, or questions you have about her!"

Let me know what ya think!

Creating a theme and continuity

Here’s the comparison I mentioned between how I envision the Oolark worker and the Oolark Leader would differ due to social and military ranking. I mentioned about the worker in a previous post, so ill describe my initial thoughts on the leader.

For the leader my thinking was how did he become leader and for me I thought of the idea maybe he defeated a legendary swamp creature, I’ve depicted this creatures face in the Oolark leaders metal breast plate, the skulls you see as his shoulder pauldrens, are from other venomous creatures he’s defeated, it’s about showing to everyone this is what I did so this is who I am. The Leader is also slimmer and leaner and meaner than the average worker.

My idea continues to develop this theme that other ranks of Oolarks for example; solders would have plain breast plates and shoulder pauldrens, yet as with the Oolark Workers I’ve tied in elements like same gloves same boots similar overalls, to unify the look of all the Oolark, from Worker to an idea for Soldiers through to the Leader you see here.

The next stage is to continue to refine the elements of both Oolark characters, then detail and go on to work on the face and arms refining the anatomy.

Coming along great! I really like how you've incorporated two different types of Oolarks to give the idea of what the character is as a whole. Keep up the excellent work my friend!

Oolark Chief

New guy here, thought I'd join the fun (not just because of the Wacom)

Didnt really have much time so I just sketched out some shiznit.

Here's a quick update for the Glitzer bugs at night.
This Chief is a greedy one and likes to stand out, especially at night time.
The clothes he's wearing have special Glitzer threads sewn into the fabric, and once a Glitzer bug is attached to the clothing. the threads then work similar to electricity wires and light up.
The Chief is also carrying a weapon that is capable of zapping enemies. The more bugs there are in the shell, the more powerful. So the chief has to refill the weapon after a few usages.

I'll update more soon.

Shyala

Hello everybody, I am completely new here. I am an illustrator, I work with both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I love to design creatures, although I am not a game artist.

Here is my attempt to create the "Shyala", a spiritual character, living in harmony with the nature surrounding him. If he is in trouble, he takes his conch shell flute to summon the swamp spirits (black round creatures). They help him in his fight with his opponents by attacking them with sticky slime.
