Lawrenzo , thanks , man , glad you are diggin in
![]() More thumbnails below - I really liked the ninja idea from my previous slide and decided to go with it. The Oolark are warriors right , so I thought wouldn't it be cool if I trow in some traditional Japanese motives from ninjas or samurais. I know, I make my life harder, because now I should not only show this, but as well I must give hints to the fact they use steam and electricity for their gadgets ( ninja steam-punk , lol ) )I also explored some heads quickly and came up with the idea that they have this weird almost like hat extension to their heads that serves as a way to regulate their body temperature. They are cold blooded lizards so they need a lot of warm and light to get active. It is the same principle as the back extension of a dimetrodont. Next thing - work on the body , the anatomy and explore some clothes design. Cheers! Last edited by VertexBee; 26-05-2012 at 06:03 AM. |

oolark vs shyala draft
hi, I have put together some concept drawings, a character board, and model sheet for this competition. I wish i had more time to work on the 3D model (pose, accessories, rendering...); however, i just do not think i'll have time to complete it.
Character sheet: This image shows the basic character designs, showing the contrasting details between the Oolark and Shyala. ![]() 3d model of Shyala: This is my rough idea for the character model of the typical Shyala male. ![]() Scene "SHHHHH!": A Shyala scavenger party on their daily quest to search for food stumbles across an Oolark patrol repairing a broken down "Bog Crawler" ![]() Scene "Contemplation": The Oolark leader sits alone, pondering his strategy to conquer the Shyala. ![]() Scene "Conflict on the Plains of Darkness": An image showing the confrontation between an Oolark Thug wielding a stun baton versus a Shyala Defender. ![]() thanks for the consideration, and good luck to everyone! {edit} ok, well.. after much to do.. i can not figure out why photobucket is resizing all my stuff to these resolutions. if i can find a way to attach a zip of the full resolutions required i would, but for now... this will have to do. all images are available in the required format. Great concepts here!
@VertexBee: great style! @D.Y: Really good family, hehehe. Here I bring my last WIP on the Shyala (not happy with the background, I have to rethink about it) ![]() Also, Iīve made a quick sketch for the Oolark, considering that they come from the same ancestor as the Shyala. Hope to have time to work on this one too. ![]() Iīve thought to make the two bunnies of the game victims for each of my characters, what do you think? hehehhe C&C are always welcome! Thanks and keep up the good work! |

Hello everyone. This is my first post on this forum and it's great to be in the company of so many talented guys.
I came across this challenge a couple weeks ago and couldn't let pass the opportunity of joining. It sounded like a lot of fun!!! Anyway, this is my first Shayla concept (I know it strays a little bit from the characteristics in the brief, but I liked the idea to much to throw it away). This Shayla tribe is composed of acuatic lizard/moles sort of creatures, the travel through the swamp by swimming under the surface keeping only the nose above the water. The are good swimmers because of the membranes between the fingers and their toes. Their main source of food are the underwater bulbous roots of the swamp plants and grass which the gnaw with their front teeth. To show their rank in their tribe, they use some feathers attached to the leather band on the tails or arms. And their weapons are made from wood or bones from dead animals they found in the swamp. These weapons are use mainly for defense but they can also be use to collect an occasional egg or to cut the vines apart. ![]() P.S. DY I like your anime style shaylas (very cute) Jlmayen: Interesting concept mate ( the background also gave me a hell of a a headache) Vertex bee: Option #5 is quite interesting ( I like the salamander like tail) but I like better option #6 ( it kinda reminds me a beatle like armor, maybe glitzerbug inspired?) |

here are my final concepts for the shyala; the body, the moves and the weapons it may use..(,
GOKOYOKO on deviantART ![]() ![]() ![]() Attacks with the help of a stretchy tail and bone stick. It can attack with its legs by gaining strength from the tail (as a kangaroo does) and by swiping its tail. It can also use other weapons. It can jump its way through the swamps. anyway, heres my entry for Oorlark: ![]() I added extra hip joints for leaping, larger head for brain mass, large eyes but eyelids closed due to lighting and equipped with engi backpacks. The energy backpacks could contain the energy beetles Last edited by bensta690; 22-05-2012 at 05:43 AM. |

Hi there guys!
Here is my concept of Oolark. I hope You"ll like him. You can see some small details such as special glasses (with them he can see in dark forrest, looking for other creatures). There is a special cage on his back. He can put there Glitzer which provides energy to his light stick ( that thing with a ball at the end ). What's more is that he just cought little rabbit in the forrest! I hope U like that! ![]() And a little zoom in. Here he cought a small forrest mouse. ![]() |
