I like the design, but a modification like that acceptable for the competition? I mean..the exhaust pipe!

Thanks
Yeah I completely forgot about the limitations, just remembered it doing general thinking riding the train on my way home.

What do the judges say?

Not sure about the exhaust pipe, I'm going to have a chat with the others about it so we'll get back to you as soon as possible. Apart form that, it's not a bad start. However, all those diamond shapes you have, why not put that kind of detail in the normal/diffuse textures? Would save you a couple of triangles you can use on something else.

After talking with the others, I have to say no to the exhaust pipe. The upshot is that you get more space on your uvs for the rest of the turbine

Roger mate. I already have started a new model, removing the exhaustpipe is a good decision, leaves up triangles for other details.

The first thought was to put the bolts on the normalmap, but I thought it might give a better effect actually making them, I knew that diamond shapes could stab me in the back though due to the fact that they are nothing more than just that. But I thought Id give it a try. You convinced me though, thanks bud

Looking good. Can't really see much place for optimisations apart from the tip of the cone, the last ring. Every other edge could be collapsed and it would look more or less the same, saving you a grand total of 5 triangles!

I've run into a problem here when modeling my hp.
How would you go about solving this?? Do I have to create a cylinder with insane subdivs to get edges close enough to the corner for this to work?

I'd have the top bit flush with the rest to avoid that kind of pinching. You're in for a world of pain just to fix that very minor little detail.
