Awesome idea for a mini comp, here's my work so far...

thought I'd start out from low and go to high... we'll soon see if that pays off or not. Currently this model stands at 2,920 tris, but I'm sure that will change once I'm sorting it out again for the high poly!

Looking good, I would consider creating the pipework flush with the engine body in the high poly and baking it onto the low this would free up some polys to make the exposed pipework more rounded for the silohuette

I'm liking how your considering the engine from both sides not seen many people do that so far

Impressive ammount of detail you've managed to squeeze into those 3k triangles. Nice one! Looking forward to more progress on this one.

I'm not dead yet!

I've been working over the past few days so haven't had a chance to do much, but now it seems I'm pretty much free up to the deadline!

Ok, so here she is so far...

There are quite a few differences between this WIP and the last! First off - I've completely re-worked the intake fan, thought it looked more interesting this way. Also, I didn't like some of the default stuff on the sides, so I got rid of them.

I've been working on the low poly alongside the high, so most of the low stuff is done.

Just working on finishing up with little details and the like, then it's on to unwrapping. Any crits would be awesome before I finish modeling this thing!

Before unwraping, I think adding some fixations to the the tubes would add realism (it doesn't held by itself). And maybe You could lean the air inlet at the bottom of the turbine, in order to make it more aerodynamic.
That's all !

While it's quite different, I feel that the main cone thing is too big. The space for the air intake is actually very small compared to the turbine in the concept. While there is scope for artistic license, I think it's good if you can keep the general features/proportions similar at least. And from a functionality perspective it's a bit strange too since you need to have lots of air flowing through the turbine

Thanks for the crits guys, I'm in the process of fixing all you've metioned!

here's a WIP of the fixation point. the fans have been made larger and the intake at the bottom is more aerodynamic.

What do you guys think?!

Looks better but you need to look at the way the turbine blades work though, they look a bit strange now, almost like the smallest edge will be facing outwards. Hard to explain but maybe if you rotated them slightly so that the wider area faces more outward. Er... I'm not doing a good job of explaining this...

I agree with urgaffel, The fan blades aren't right. You have to think about the air intake, right now the blades are thin and almost straight back. You would want to make the blades wider and at a strong angle to suck in the air.

Thanks for your crits guys, I think I've covered all of the points you made.

Baked out the normals, but the results aren't too great... got a lot of cleaning up to do and it's getting so close to the deadline!

here's the WIP and my UVs

any crits on this would be great - secret unwrapping methods, anything!

EDIT: lol, dont bother mentioning those overlapping UVs -spotted them!
