Hey guys!

Cool theme this time, figured I should try joining in. Just hope I'll make it between all the schoolwork

Here's my first lowpoly attempt, and as you can see I'm getting really close to the 3k tri limit, and I still got lots of stuff I wanna put in! :P Any suggestions on how to cut back on the polys? Any advice really is very appreciated, I'm pretty new to this thing Looking foreward to seeing alot of cool entries!

Update

I finished the low poly model. I started on the hp, but didn't really like the way it turned out, so I'll start over. I really should be focusing on schoolwork, but I wan't to finish this as well!

Smooth flow and a solid foundation so far. You could save some tris by losing the face in the center of each fan blade. The normal map will do most of that, and the realtime shot will probably have the engine rotating. For that reason, you might be able to skimp on the divisions of the propeller's "nose", as well. I bet you can get away with 10-12 divisions. Those two things should reduce the count by a few hundred tris.

Keep it up!

I did as you said and cut back on the polys in the fans and the nose thingy. Saved me a couple of hundred tris I put in some more detail and ended up at 2999 tris.

Thanks for the good advice!

That's looking good but I think you could take out a segment or two out of the thinner tubes and put those polys to use in more detailing. They look like they are maybe 6 sided now, 4 should be enough for the small stuff. Just a thought, I can't say for sure if they already are 4 sided or not

Thank you urgaffel! You are totally right, they are six sided. I made them 4 sided now.

Started over with the hp now, looks alot better than last time, I'll post pictures soon.

The first pieces of high poly modelling. Haven't really put in any details yet.
I have one question: If I want to put in bolts and stuff should they be separate meshes? or elements within the object? I use 3DS Max btw.

I would model them in a different mesh to begin with, then when baking put all high poly meshes into one mesh. Also remember to use floaters where you can, they will save you lots of time.

Thank's for the advice, I'll do that. I'm not familiar with what floaters are but I'll read about it
