Can we damage our model(Make it look old) in other words can we add some artistic licensing, but still follow the lines of the concept

Just wondering
Sure. Texturing and stylistic decisions are up to you.

I was thinking about this earlier and I think for this time around you can use any type of cubemap/spheremap you like. It's not something that'd be part of the budget for a prop in a game, usually you have a couple of cubemaps that you use on everything that needs a cubemap. And metals definitely need a cubemap

I've read the whole thread, and I wonder if I could modify the object graphic style. As an example could I turn it into a cartoonish style, with round angles etc ?

Apologies for the very late reply but cartoony style is ok.

Just a little confused, I was re-reading the specs, and it says we must follow the specs, the specs say we need a Diffuse, Spec, Normal, etc. do we need them all? I'm a little confused, or is it that is what your allow maximum?

The specs listed are the maximum. You can use less if you want to.

One question regarding this:

Quote:
At the beginning of each competition you will be given a theme/concept to follow. However, in the interests of stimulating creativity, you are allowed to make minor changes to the concept. The theme, however, should not be changed.
So far a lot of the entries are in quite advances regarding the modeling and in some cases they are steering away quite far from the concept given. When voting starts to choose the winner, how important is it to follow the concept as closely as possible?

Cheers and good luck everyone.

It's a bit of a tricky one. While it's important to stick with a concept, we are allowing some artistic license so I would like to think that the submissions that use that artistic license in the best way will be the ones that are rewarded in the polls. If you veer away from the concept too far it will have to be counted against it but at the same time, if what has been done is totally awesome then it's hard to fault it. And it's the same in the games industry, you can improve on concepts. Altough if you had an idea that would alter the concept you'd bring it up with your lead before modeling anything

@nassepossu, If you have GLSL enabled, you don't need the BGE. AFAIK, the BGE is [should be] allowed though, because it is realtime.
