Competition #8 - poly_pusher

Hello everyone. Looks like a great contest. Gonna post an image of my real world firebird that I am currently restoring ane will be basing this model on. Modo is a phenomenal modeler, great to see so many ppl getting familiar with it.

the modo renderer is incredible. 40 seconds on these renders with 2 area lights on a 2.5 ghz amd opty dual core.

w/ bullet holes and patch panels

Normal_mapped body and tires. No windows, bumpers, plow, etc have been mapped yet.

Base reference

Got the basic shape and layout down. Need to add few more details to car before reducing poly's to extract a clean normal map from the higher poly subpatched. As for other details:

windows will not be glass. reinforced metal.

Planning on adding dramatic sidepipe exhaust.

Was thinking that mounted guns might be kind of corny, unneccessary. Just make the car into a rolling

Turning it more into a 4 wheel off road vehicle.
Gonna turn the trunk and rear window into a flatbed with a roll bar support structure.
Wheels are gonna be nobbier
Need to enlarge wheel wells and include front and rear axle with those huge shocks and coils to make it look more structurally feasible.

Sweet firebird... You have to hurry up, there isn't much time left for the competition.

yeah, just noticed the competition in luxology's forum yesterday. Seems like a fun project. Currently I am putting together my demo reel and looking for a job. Most of my work is high poly characters, modeled in modo and mudbox. Figured this would be a good low poly project to add to my portfolio.

Sucks that I entered so late. Love to hear what you ppl think. Could use some comments and crits. Thanks alot and I look forward to visiting your threads!

nixed the rollbar and flatbed...didnt even bother posting any photos of it. I've been trying to go for something fast, all terrain, and poewrful. However within reason. I figure if you need anything in a 4 wheel firebird it would be gas. So I added the gas tank. All body panels are seperate now. Need to form them into a solid mesh by connecting the seams but retaining the panels space relief. Texturally I am planning on going with dusty and rusty. Polycount is currently approx. 4100. Should be able to whittle it down.

4000 triangles on the nose! No more no less!

Model is partially unwrapped. Currently preparing the uv's. Should have them done tonight and likely the normal will be generated as well. That give me 3 days to agonize over the textures.

Looks good to me, ready to go. I'd say it's time to start agonizing over those textures.

Images are at top:

Normal mapped the tires and main body. Still many areas to normal map left. The uv layout is completed, Not the prettiest uv's I've ever seen but I think I maximized the resolution for primary elements such as the body.

Gotta say Im pretty damn happy about how those tires are shaping up. Less artifacting from facets than I expected from the low-res mesh.
