Competition #8 - aegix
My first gameartist.net competition! I'm excited.
Everyone loves the Civic but it's not very fast and I doubt it could kill anyone unless you parked on their head or something. How to fix? ![]() Latest Update Final submission, made at 2:30am ;P Beauty Render (aka print screen + max viewport): ![]() Wires: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/civic-wire.jpg Texture sheet: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/c...xturesheet.jpg UVW: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/civic-uvw.png I'm disappointed I had to rush the texture at the end... I definitely underestimated how long it would take me to texture. Also a pity I couldn't get a specular done but I think it looks quite nice 100% self illuminated with the minimal lighting information I painted in to the diffuse. Old school charm I learnt a lot about texturing though which was my original goal. Looking forward to the next comp! ------------ Quick update, hope to finish the diffuse and get a specular together tomorrow. 100% self illuminated at the moment: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/c...ogresslol3.jpg ------------ Update #6 Glad we have an extension: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/civic-texturing4.jpg Crits? ------------ Update #5 Quick update to remind you I'm still alive. Modelling is done now, final polycount is 3986 polys. I've started unwrapping... I'll hope to have that all done tomorrow. Every update needs an image so here's a shitty viewport depth-of-field effect: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/civic-dof.png ------------- April 1 - Update #4 Got the cannon on and optimized the mesh. 3774 polys. Aaaaaaaalmost done now. Just have a few bits of junk to chuck on to eat up the rest of my polys. Not looking forward to unwrapping this beast :P http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/civic-progress04.png Flatshaded view for those of you interested: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/c...rogress04b.png Thanks for all the crits... keep them coming! ------------- April 1 - Update #3 Another update... This is a lot of a fun to work on ;D Sorry if I break the forums! http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/civic-progress03.png 3354 polys... it's going to be tight but I think I can make it. ------------- April 1 - Update #2 http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/c...rogress02a.png http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic/c...rogress02b.png I think I'm done with the body of the car. 1474 polys so far which is about where I want to be. I have lots of junk and structural support to model that will probably bring it up to about 2000. From there I have 2000 for the engine, wheels + suspension and minigun. Should be enough :X Engine next. ------------- March 31 - Update #1 Progress so far: http://files.eatpolys.com/3d/civic-progress01.png Crits on the mesh so far please! I know there's not much there at the moment but I'd prefer to be notified of errors in my method now so they're easy to fix. The textures are going to be a real focus for me. They're something I need to work on so I'm going to try and put the effort in. I'm not sure whether I'll use normal maps... maybe if I have time.

Hmmm, right now there isn't much to show. The mesh looks alright, I can't see anything there that I wouldn't have done myself for an early stage model.
Just remember not to use the references to much. When I was modelling my post apoc vehicle I used the reference guide a little to much. Leaving me going for acuracy rather than creativity. I should have made a sheet like yourself with ideas. Just a thing, so far the polygon distribution looks fine. But later on watch out for polygon counts, 4000 is a little less than you would have thought :P |

loves polygons

Yep, that's awesome. I guess the interior is next, and since you're close to 4000 it should be done on the next update
Can't wait to see it in it's final form ![]()
