Competition #8 - BigHoss

Well I really need a lot of help with this one. I'm currently just working on a base mesh of a regular semi truck as of right now. Once I've got this done, I'll go back, and modify it to fit the them of the comp. Anyway any, and all crits are welcome. This is my first actual vehicle so I'm not real familiar the flow of this type of model. Ok well enough rambling, so crit away please.

Why yes Wesley actually I am using a Peterbilt. Surprised you could see that in just the little bit that I have done. Was surprises me the most is that you guys didn't crit my work that I have done. I figured I'd have made some kind of mistake seeing how it's my first attempt at a vehicle without a tut. Anyway thanks for the encouragement.

It's too early too crits. And having made one myself a few months ago I know what a Peterbilt looks like, thats why I could tell so fast
I'll let you know when I see errors in the model once you've posted a first draft of the final model, imHo you can't crit anything thats WiP untill the maker himself says he's "done" with it

Ah ok, was just checking to see if there was anything anyone saw of what I've got so far that I had missed, that looked odd. Anyway I'll update tomorrow, for now I'm off to bed.

well if you already want crits, the line across the hood can be removed, and you are using too much detail on the rounding of the cabin top. If you'll want to have more detail on the overall truck and nice round wheels you'll need to be careful not to use too many triangles from the start. 1 poly as a rounding should be enough (like you did with the wheelcover).

To answer your PM, this is the only wireframe i could find from when I was making it.
Didn't feel like rendering a final wireframe

Ok well here is a little update, not much though. As Wesley suggested, I cut away a lot of the polies that I was using. I think in total I got rid of like half of them. Real life has been keeping me busy, so I've not had much time at all to work on this. Here's is the small update. Also I was wondering how I should model in the rearend. I'm not sure if I want to model the entire frame, and also model the frame underneath the cab, or just try to cut some corners with it. Any suggestions are welcome.

Here are some things I think would make the model better, and easier to unwrap later:

red = to remove
cyan = new edges
green = things to keep in mind (clean mesh)
