Competition #8 - Dark_Ghost

So Ii'll throw my hat in too.

I am looking at using a 1985 Ford Crown Vic. LTD, and giving it a steampunk twist. I'll be giving it some heavy weaponry, a large water repository, massive engine makeover and whatever else i have the polys for. 8) i've included a render Ii made of a quick mockup so that you all can get where I am headded with this.

OK start, I like Steampunk pretty well...
I would have to say you should make the legs a little less spindly - I know it's a mockup but I'm just giving you quick crit.
I don't think that legs like that could support a compact car chassis lol.
This might help you a little - saw this yesterday.

Looks a little advanced for the regular post-apoc society, you might be chacing it with the judges there Crown vic is anice choice however

Well, I guess I can see that. I will say that it wasn't stated that all tech was lost. Steam power being one of the earlist forms of mechanized transportation, as well as being easy to create and maintain, make it a perfect choice for usage in a post-apoc world. I will continue working untill the Judges weigh in on this though. I've had this idea forming in my head for a few months, this contest is just the perfect oppertunity to let this little beastie loose.

Untill such time, heres a new image.

Also, I have allways liked the crown vic as a car. It's one of the few "iconic" cars of the 80's. That, the Delorian amd a few others.

I like the steampunk idea too, I hope you can prove to us that this vehicle fits the theme/time of this comp The legs look a little unnatural for a vehicle and you have to consider the fact that in a post apocalyptic world nobody takes the time to build roads anymore... your vehicle would go into the ground with those spikes, and the massive water tank on top

A little farther, getting some of the detail work done but i still have a long way to do. It is prolly at 2.5k polys max, with all the legs on but not optimized. Crits welcome!

The joints on the legs look odd. The hydraulics (or however you call them) could be bigger. I'm sure that the power it has is not proportional to the diameter of those but it could look more impressive You have a combination of very square and very round stuff that might not go that well together. The model doesn't fell like a whole. Where the leg is connected to the body I would add a joint that looks more like the other ones... not a sphere. It might be hard to make something move up/down and rotate at the same time... but the sphere doesn't look good. And I'd rotate the 2 spikes that are on the left/right so that they don't point forward. Overall is interesting, you need to make it believable.

You are right about the connection of the legs to the body. I've since gotten some new ideas that will be more solid and more twards what i want it to look like over all. Over all I am not worried about the physics of this device. I am just trying to keep with the vision i have.

Thank you for the crits!

Nice progress im a huge fan of post apoc steam punk
With the model i would loose the top turret and add a roof rack with supplies aswell as some bars on the windows.

Im not sure as andrei said about the ball connection however to loose some tri you could try a GeoSphere with 3 tetra segments

Update

Ok, got busy, so i've not done much, but i do think that this redo of the leg connection will work better. I'm also thinking of changing the top gun to something a little diffrent. That however will have to wait till the next update.
