Thanks for the support guys. I'm waiting for the weekend to start this one. Last night I modeled the PSP, tonight I plan to unwrap it... But tomorrow night the fun will start

The wait is over. I finally had some free time tonight and I started modeling. The "bad" news is that this car got to me... and I started to love the way it looks (I'm talking about the the VW van) so I don't think I'm going with me initial plan. I will make it a hippie van but it will be a peaceful one. I'll add lots of protection and I don't think I'll damage it too much from the model (i'll make a rusty texture though). I'd rather make it look better then use tris to destroy it... I mean... look at it... how I can I damage that cute little thing
Anyway... what you should know about the model... The tricount is 3262 (the extra 6 are from the blueprints ) and there is still a symmetry line there... and I optimized just the areas that were in my way. I believe that once I start optimizing I can bring it to around 2600-2700 so I still can add around 1300 of stuff on it And yes... it will be a cage... a more interesting thing on the top... and detailed stuff all over the car.
As for how I modeled... the speed modeling comp was an inspiration so I decided to record this one as well... I'll post the Making of video once the model is done. It will take some time to edit since it's about 3h (the time I worked on it) and it's full of moments when I'm just looking at refs Some hard work will have to go into this... but I like doing it.
Enough talk... here is the model:

Thats a really nice model dude, nice and clean. Looks realistic also. What type of ideas do you have for the smashing of the hippy bus

Thanks guys. As I said, the smashing will probably come from the texture but I'm not sure yet... I have to work on it a lot more. I want to have it compact. I'll spend some time today though and look at wracks see if I figure out something interesting.\
tkaza, I just watched the recording I made and it took 2h30min (from 1.30am to 4am lol... I was tired) It's not optimized yet. I'll work today a little more on it see what I can improve and just after I think I have exactly what I want I'll start researching on those wracks I was talking about
