Competition #7 - RogerAdams

Hello everyone,

I just discovered this forum via the Mudbox forums and it looks like a really great community. I think this is a really fun idea for a contest too, especially for noobs like me. Here is my first WIP, which is now dead due to some sort of file corruption. I can reload the .mud file but when I start to sculpt on any level Mudbox crashes. I tried a bunch of things to see if I can recover it but it's a no go. I exported my lowest level as an .obj and it still crashes when I subdivide or try and sculpt. A new sphere works just fine. But I'm not going to worry about it ,that'll teach me for not making iterative saves.

Thank you guys. I'm amazed at how easy it is to sculpt in Mudbox. The tools are so responsive. Pinch and Flatten are so great. Here's my new wip, I've been saving in multiple files in case I have another problem. Being able to subdivide where ever I need more polys is just a fantastic feature. I did have to look around for a while to find the option to turn off the green frozen areas so my screen cap would look at little better. It's in Preferences -> Levels -> Inactivate Levels -> Set it to None (if anyone else was looking for it.)

Oh man, this really sucks. I opened up my latest wip and it's crashing mudbox too. I'm just having no luck. Even if I open an old version of the file, mudbox crashes whenever I go up a subdivision. I think I'm just going to have to finish my entry in one sitting.

I think this is my final. I liked my first attempt the best but this one's ok.

Thanks achmedthesnake and funkdelic. The last one wasn't sitting with me at all. It's not really funny, more creepy than anything else and little too Cheshire cat. So I sat down again this morning and thought I'd try a full body character. I thought I'd make a fat guy then it morphed into a penguin-type creature really quickly. I think if I spent more time with it I would model out the hands and feet but I'm happy how it is. I ended up going to about 2.3 million polys and my computer didn't explode!

I just can't say enough about Mudbox. Local Subdivisions is just amazing and the brushes are just so responsive. I love the scratch brush for the initial block-in or for drastic changes. Flatten is pretty great too. You can take a sphere and quickly make it into a box and start hardening edges. The only bad thing with a sphere is the unexpected pinching that happens sometimes.
