Competition #6 - CopticMike

Finally I have decided a concept that I found on Ancient Egyptian weapons Since I'm from Egyptian descent and all, wanted to do something Egyptian, you get the point.
Check out the dagger, its pretty cool and im modeling it right now, but I'm a slow modeler and an extremely slow Texturer! Dont get me started on my skill, but ill try my best. First competition ever, Wish me luck!

Ginally got around to modeling it, exactly 250 Triangles, no more, no less. Tell me any thing that needs improving and batter ways to convey parts of the blade so that it looks better then it is now, im not in the industry, so I would love to see some of those gaming tricks you guys do.

Here is what I would do...
Your weapon stands out through the handle that has a very unique and interesting shape. The blade is round, but it wouldn't be noticeable if you make if pointier and use the triangles from there to give the handle a little more shape.

I would cut the edges that are red, they don't give that much shape in the model. You will notice a change but if it makes the handle look better it's all that matters. The blue ones are if you want to go a little further with it. The ones on the blade will make it more pointier, not a very bad thing and the ones from the handle can be connected since the distance between them is smaller then it's on the top.
Hope it helps somehow

Andrei, the stuff you advised me worked like a charm and I actually found that I have alot of useless polygons just laying around, so I deleted them and got to develop the shape of the bottom a bit. Thanks Again. Heres a preview of the new and what looks like what might be he final mesh, Any last minute changes I should do.

Im gonna UV map and texture it now, I still have 2 Triangkles left, anything possible to do with them?

Yes, it looks a lot better. I don't know what you can do with 2 tris I'd hurry up with the texture because tomorrow you have to submit it.

Well, Atleast you tried mate

Hmm, well, my crit would be that the handle's looks a a bit odd, maybe some more metall'ish texture in it.. but I mean, It's alright really, you did a good job.

I'd say it's close to the reference you have, so I wouldn't put any metal in. The problem with the texture is the blur. You need to sharpen it, a lot Also you can give it a little more contrast, the highlights need to stand out a little more.

Thanks guys, I actually tried to sharpen my texture, it helped a bit, but it seems when I zoom into the model the texture looks soo much better, but from the angle that you saw in the render it looked the same.
