Competition #6 - glynnsmith

I had a play around for about 20 minutes this afternoon with no real direction other than something the Orks from LOTR might swing around. I know that this kind of thing is probably resigned to such a fantasy setting, but I have seen some magical weapons, so I thought it'd be cool. Let me know if not

Not sure if it'll be too effective as a weapon, but I think it looks scary enough.

240 tri's so far

Looks awesome. And scary.

Those last 10 tris should be used to make the blades a little nicer in shape I think :P

Looks like a good start. Maybe the three thorns at same size? Ok, I like it.

Waiting for the texture.

Haha. Dude, they're SUPPOSED to be angular

Cheers though

This is the kind of thing I had in mind, but not at such a drastic angle. I'll make it look like it's made from that dark, mottled metal, too.

Heh, you should have the topmost edges be like that. Just spikes going outwards.

Would make it at least twice as brutal (in the imperial measure of Brutality which is equal to 1.35 LA cops)....

Okee then!

Glicerart - I took your advice, and thought that if I made the blades the same size, it could be used like a mace. Thanks for the suggestion Check it out!

James - Dude. You're too late, mate :P I whacked a big spike through the tops of the blades and made a kind of mace dealy. I REALLY like your idea, as it would have been pretty brutal-looking, for sure. I might make another one for fun Cheers bro.

Also in the process of trying to add some stained glass in the gaps where the blades join the spike, just to make it pretty cool and interesting, and to add some much needed colour. For all you neigh-sayers, If the glass breaks in battle, more damage for the weilder.

Please excuse the lofi textures. I haven't really spent a whole load of time working on this, as you might be able to tell. Also, I'm running a crappy 4800Ti, so it doesn't even show the specular maps in the viewport. Rendering this, all the time, is a pain in the a.

If that is supposed to be metal on the blade, it really really looks more like carpet or sandpaper. I suggest leaving all the metal texture up to the normal map.
